MHS senior qualifies for national health competition

Monroe High School senior Amanda Lis was the only Monroe County student to qualify for the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) national competition after finishing second in her category, Nurse Assisting, at the state HOSA convention last weekend.

Lis was one of four Monroe High School students who earned top-eight finishes at the state event.  The others were Rami Dahbour in Medical Spelling, Alexa Eagle in Nurse Assisting; and Sophee Langerman in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences.

“This state conference drew 2,300 competitors so having four of our students place as high as they did is excellent and is a tribute to their knowledge in their various disciplines,” said Mrs. Leah Morelli, the Monroe High School HOSA advisor.  “Our students represented Monroe High School very well, conducting themselves with professionalism and grace in a very fierce competition.”

The national competition will be held at the end of June in Anaheim, California.
