Monroe Virtual School
Online and self-paced courses allow students to study and succeed in a manner that is suited to their needs
Monroe Virtual School, with its flexible schedule, is the perfect choice for students who, because of job, family, or other circumstances, left high school before earning their high school diplomas. Most learning can be done at home, with students taking five hours a week to meet with a certified Monroe Public Schools teacher. MVHS serves students up to age 19 who are not currently enrolled in school but want to earn their high school diplomas. Students who complete Monroe Virtual High School will receive a Monroe Public Schools diploma and will be able to participate in graduation. MVHS has made it possible for nearly 50 students to receive their high school diplomas, something they would not have been able to do otherwise. MVHS classes are not easy, but self-motivated and organized students who undertake the challenge are able to reap the benefits of finishing high school!

What will this cost?
These classes are free. Eligible students will be provided with a laptop to be used as a learning tool. A teacher/mentor and a counselor will work with each student to provide academic and technical support. (Note: Students will be responsible for intentional damage or loss of equipment.)
Are the classes easy?
No, online coursework is challenging. All of the courses are taught by certified teachers, many who are associated with a university. While the pacing is flexible, there are time tables and specific due dates. Students MUST be able to stick to a schedule, read written directions, and stay motivated without constant supervision. Even though most of the coursework will be done online at home, students will be required to meet with a teacher/mentor five hours a week at the designated virtual school site.
What else do I need to know?
You will be enrolled as a Monroe Public School student and as such must abide by our guidelines for behavior and academic honesty. Continued participation will depend on your effort and attitude. All credits earned will be applied towards your Monroe High School diploma.
